Ushuaia
El Fin Del Mundo.
Located on the shores of the Beagle Channel, at the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego Island, and surrounded by the snowcapped Marital Range, is Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. Ushuaia’s name comes from the language of the yámanas tribe, its original inhabitants, and means “bay that penetrates westward.”
Ushuaia has evolved into a tourist city, ski town and adventure hub with the port closest to Antarctica. Ushuaia can be enjoyed all year long because the mountains and the sea keep the climate mild. We decided to visit during the Winter months, and although cold, remarkably temperate considering we were only 500 miles from Antarctica. Our adventure began with a journey to see the penguin rookery 2 and ½ hours south into the Atlantic Ocean. Our guide took us to Martillo Island, home of the Gentoo Penguin where we had the chance to experience them in their natural habitat. It was a powerful and emotional experience connecting with nature in such a beautiful and pristine place!
Our adventure continued with a visit to the southernmost national park in the world, Tierra del Fuego National Park. The park offers lush forests, snow-capped mountains, lakes and varied wildlife including different species of birds, beavers, Andean fox and more. It is the only national park in Argentina with a marine coast.

When it comes to enjoying the food of the region the seafood and king crab is the highlight. Pair dinner with an amazing Argentine wine and dulce de leche ice cream and you will understand why people say that Argentine food is the best!
